About HUREC Nepal

Since 2009, the Human Rights and Rural Environment Protection Centre has grown into a community-rooted institution in Surkhet, combining local knowledge with nationally recognised frameworks so that the voices of marginalised communities are heard and acted upon.

Our Vision

A just, democratic and peaceful society where human rights are universally respected, the natural environment is preserved, and communities — especially youth and children — are empowered to lead pathways of sustainable development.

Our Mission

To promote human rights, democracy, peacebuilding, social justice and environmental protection through advocacy, awareness and capacity-building initiatives in rural communities of Nepal.

Interlinked areas of work, each reinforcing a just, democratic and sustainable society.

Human Rights and Democracy

Grassroots awareness campaigns and rights-based education that help rural citizens understand and claim their rights, including the radio programme “मेरो आवाज मेरो अधिकार” (My Voice, My Rights).

Child Rights and Protection

Work against child marriage, trafficking, child labour and exploitation, including community-based child networks such as the Lali Gurans Child Network.

Transitional Justice and Mediation

Community dialogue, civic education and local mediation that reduce conflict and strengthen social cohesion, backed by affiliation with the Mediation Council of Nepal.

Environment and Climate Change

Awareness of sustainable rural environmental practices and the long-term impacts of climate change, helping communities build resilience for future generations.
